Start attending Patrol board meetings and take part in Patrol activities, open positions and meetings. Involvement is a great thing in itself, but it also provides ample opportunity to network with other Patrol members who serve. |

I wish all of our Patrol members a Happy, Healthy and prosperous New Year, thank you for your support. I cannot thank you enough for your work ethic and dedication to our community. We have received favorable reports on our new Ford vehicles. Many Patrol members have given a thumbs up and are enjoying the ride. When it is time to replace the Ford’s we will petition you for your preference of replacement vehicles. I appreciate your suggestions and ideas. We replaced the high mileage Hyundai's with Fords because you preferred American vehicles, we always like to hear any and all of your suggestions. Our annual Luncheon will be held on Jan. 27th at the Community Hall, doors open at 11:30 am, and the luncheon should start at 12:00 noon. We are also having our annual meeting on Thursday Feb. 2nd at the Community Hall at 9:00 am. We will be voting on new board members, and hopefully we will have 100% of our Patrol in attendance. It will provide an opportunity to meet and communicate with the Sheriff Office Deputies, and allows us to show our appreciation to the volunteers that have served the patrol for many years. Sometime in the future we should be moving into the new proposed complex within the Community Association. I will notify members with all pertinent information on our new headquarters as I receive it. Again I thank you for all you do.

ANNUAL LUNCHEON
The S.C.C. Security Patrol Annual Luncheon was held this January 27th. Over 450 Patrol members participated in this years function, that creates the opportunity to thank members for their gratefully appreciated volunteering. With very short notice Ilona Merritt graciously accepted the chairperson position and immediately put together the staff and organization (and hours) to create a very entertaining luncheon. Thank you Ilona Merritt and your staff of volunteers. Tara Rishter volunteered to organize the seating arrangements, which involved sorting all of the signup sheets and compiling team member seating arrangements and entering them into the computer. Thank you Tara. Joanne Cousineau did a magnificent job of acquiring the many donated gifts. Entertainment was provided by Larry Lundeen, the S.C.C. Patrol synchronized swimmers, and Kelly & Gary. Decorations were done by the staff of Ilona. Luncheon costs were very reasonable averaging $4.20 per person. Thank you all for making our luncheon a success.

The Patrol needs volunteers to provide copy periodically for this website that keeps Patrol members informed. Forward copy about events, happenings, comments or just whatever to the Chief. The Chief and our Chaplain do their part providing information, but we would like more Patrol member comments. To participate you just need to put data in a readable format. |

Who are they, what do they do?
It is a fact of life that we don't have enough police officers to enable quick response to crimes occurring in our area. We do pay taxes and expect police protection. The S.C.C. Security Patrol consisting of 1200 neighbors that volunteer to patrol the residential and business areas in Sun City Center, help support our fellow Police officers. Their mission is to deter crime and to assist residents in numerous circumstances. They are the eyes and ears of our community “NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS”, patrolling our streets, assisting neighbors seven (7) days a week 365 days a year. Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee states “the dedicated volunteers of the Security Patrol are a valuable resource for the Sheriff’s office. Together we have made Sun City Center one of the safest communities in the county”. The Patrol responds to calls from family members out of state concerned about the well being of their beloved relatives here in Sun City Center. The patrol informs residents in the evening hours that they have left their garage doors open. The Patrol helps to locate lost people and strayed pets, and see that they are returned home safely. They are a source of information to residents and maintain a lost and found department. The Security Patrol has limitations as to what they can do, The Patrol doesn't have any law enforcement authorization, if and when they notice anything suspicious they quickly notify the Sheriff’s Determent. |
